28 April 2005: If you're a Big & Rich fan, be sure to plan a trip to Deadwood June 17th - 19th for a free concert with John and Kenny as part of Wild Bill Hickok Days! If you want to see some more information, check out the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce Web site. Also be sure to read the weekly blog written by Dustin Floyd, part of the DIGITAL DEADWOOD team! This week's entry will shed some light on the Big and Rich/Deadwood story.
27 April 2005: Okay, now that the digital environment is back up and running, we'll start to get the forum working again, which was lost in the hosting transfer. It didn't get a great deal of use, so maybe no one wants to see it online again? If you have an opinion, one way or the other, let us know. In the meantime we're plowing away on DIGITAL STURGIS, which will be online in a matter of weeks! Keep watching your e-mail for a special newsletter with more information.
26 April 2005: Thanks to several hours of dedicated work by our programming team and our new hosting service, DIGITAL DEADWOOD is up and running again! If you still experience problems, please e-mail us. Otherwise, enjoy the site!
And if you're in the Black Hills area, feel free to stop by the Fire Hall in Sturgis tonight for a special community presentation on DIGITAL STURGIS. Questions and comments are invited. If you can't make it, feel free to submit your queries to us by e-mail!
Yikes! In case you hadn't noticed, DIGITAL DEADWOOD has been unavailable since Sunday, thanks to a crisis with our previous hosting company and a super fast change of servers (hint: don't annoy Russian server admins!). The good news is that we've moved in with our local friends at BlackHills.com, located just a few miles away in Spearfish! They're working fast and furiously with our programming team to get DIGITAL DEADWOOD up and running again. With any luck, we'll be back online in a matter of hours! Stay tuned for more updates.
19 April 2005: The Camp 5 fire appears to be 100% contained as of 6PM this evening, although fire crews are keeping a close watch on the flames for the next few days.
According to the latest news reports, the Camp 5 fire east of Deadwood is almost completely under control, with firefighters still hoping for 100% containment in three and a half hours (8PM MDT). The rain and mist this morning and this afternoon have helped fire crews, although the weather is making the already rough terrain even more difficult to travel across. This may become a larger problem later tonight, when rain could turn into snow in the Deadwood/Lead area.
In other news, the new Big & Rich music video (for their single "Big Time") will premiere Thursday on CMT! Until then, you can watch the video in full at BigandRich.com or at CMT.com. Filmed almost entirely in the Deadwood area (Main Street Deadwood and the Moonshine Gulch Saloon in nearby Rochford are the two primary locations), the video was produced with coordination assistance from TDG Communications and Digital Deadwood staff - who can be seen in the video. If you're a Black Hills local, keep your eyes out for Bill Walsh, the owner of Deadwood's Franklin Hotel, and Tom Griffith, president of TDG Communications.
18 April 2005: Though it hasn't yet been widely reported, the latest news (taken from SD Public Radio) is that as of 4PM today, the Camp 5 fire east of Deadwood has burned 775 acres and is 60% contained. Fire Crews tentatively expect full containment by 8 PM tomorrow night. There are 150 firefighters on the scene. Crews are planning to work through the night. Because it's burning to the east in areas already burned by the 2002 Grizzly Gulch fire, it doesn't look like this one will threaten anything in Deadwood city limits directly. We'll continue to report updates as we get them, so keep checking back.
7 April 2005: Digital Deadwood is in Sioux Falls today as part of the Governor's Giant Vision Business Awards being held at the Washington Pavilion downtown. If you're in the Sioux Falls area, feel free to stop by in the late morning and early afternoon to visit our Digital Destinations display. There are 19 other entrants into the competition, all showcasing the new wave in technology. To learn more about the awards program, visit the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
